Pressure and Flow Flashcards
What type of circulation does the human body have?
Closed system with two pumps in series: pulmonary and systemic
Where does the right ventricle pump blood?
Lungs
What is the pulmonary circulation?
The part of the circulatory system which carries deoxygenated blood away from the right ventricle to the lungs, and returns oxygenated blood to the left atrium and ventricle of the heart.
What is the resistance and pressure like in the pulmonary circulation?
Low
What is the systemic circulation?
The part of the cardiovascular system which carries oxygenated blood away from the left ventricle, and returns deoxygenated blood back to the heart
What does stroke volume mean?
Volume of blood expelled by each ventricle in each beat
What does cardiac output mean?
Volume of blood pumped per minute (L/min)
CO=SV*Heart Rate
What is Total Peripheral Resistance?
m
