Pressure Flashcards
1
Q
What is pressure?
A
A measure of how much force is applied over unit area
2
Q
What does a high/low force per unit area equal?
A
High force per unit area = high pressure
Low force per unit area = low pressure
3
Q
What is the equation to find pressure?
A
P = F/A
4
Q
What are the units of pressure
A
Newtons per metre squared - N/m (squared)
Or Pascal, Pa
5
Q
If given in mm (squared) or cm (squared) what happens to the units of pressure?
A
They can be written as N/cm (squared) or N/mm (squared)
Cannot use Pascal
6
Q
How does area affect pressure
A
P is inversely proportional to the Area
The larger the area the less the pressure
E.g a digger or a knife
