· James Monroe fought as a major in the American Revolution and was wounded in the Battle of Trenton.

· He established Monroe Doctrine in 1823 that opposed European intervention in the affairs of the western hemisphere.
· He presided over “The Era of Good Feelings.”
· Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, is named for him.

William Henry Harrison 1841 (Old Tippecanoe)

· William Henry Harrison was the first president to die in office.
· He gave a 3.5 hour inauguration speech in the cold and rain, caught pneumonia and died 32 days later.

· James K. Polk served as governor of Tennessee and as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
