What was “Moral diplomacy” like?
Was seen as more ethical, more peaceful and les interventionist and less imperialistic than the foreign policies of McKinley, Taft and Roosevelt
Why did America not get involved in WW1 between 1914 - 1917?
Protecting domestic situation

Many European immigrants in US, did not want to cause tension by siding with one country over another

What were the economic reasons for getting involved in WW1?
US economy benefitted from War -industry and agriculture benefitted. US became the ‘worlds bank’ - $2 billion lent to European powers; $27 million lent to Germany
What were the military reasons for getting involved in WW1?
U-boat warfare killing US civilians e.g Lusitania 1915. Discovery of the Zimmerman Telegram which put Texas and New Mexico under possible threat of attack if Mexico helped Germany
What was there a fear of?
Communism

First time US had worked with other countries
Economic benefits
What was achieved through moral diplomacy?
Involvement in Paris Peace Conference as mediator and his FOURTEEN POINTS formed basis of Treaty of Versailles.
