What were the events of the case?
Oliver brown tried to enrol his daughter in an all white school which was only a few blocks away from where she lived. The principal refused to accept. With he NAACPs help they brought the challenge to the supreme court
What judge made what decision?
Chief Justice Warren made the landmark decision calling for the desegregation of all public school systems throughout the nation
Within a year of the decision how many school districts had desegregated?
Over 500 schools
What were examples of defiance to this ruling in the deep south?
Governor of Georgia declared his state would not tolerate the mixing of races
The KKK maintained a campaign of terror and violence against those who supported desegregation
What has slowed down integration considerably?
The “southern manifesto” issued by 96 southern congressmen that stated it would use all lawful mean to bring about a reversal of this decision which is contrary to the Constitution
