What warrants abx prophylaxis for dental appointments?
- Prosthetic cardiac valves
- Prosthetic material used for cardiac valve repairs, such as annuloplasty rings and chords.
- Previous Infective Endocarditis.
- Unrepaired cyanotic congenital heart disease or repaired congenital
heart disease - Cardiac transplant with valve regurgitation due to a structurally abnormal valve.
If your patient needs abx prophylaxis but is already taking a penicillin for something else, what should you prescribe?
An antibiotic from a different class.
i.e. Clindamycin (600mg 1-hr prior) or Azithromycin (500mg 1-hr prior)
Your small pediatric pt has a moderate abscess and you’d like to write a script for an abx. They weigh 12 kg (25 lbs). Write a script for Amoxicillin.
Amoxicillin 125 mg/5ml suspension
