Pediatric Considerations Flashcards
If caries extends beyond 2/3 of the way thru dentin of a primary molar on x-ray, what might your treatment be?
Pulpotomy and SSC
If caries extends 1/3 to 2/3 of the way thru dentin of a primary molar on x-ray, what might your treatment be?
SSC (maybe no pulpotomy)
or Filling
If caries extends from DEJ to 1/3 of the way thru dentin of a primary molar on x-ray, what might your treatment be?
Direct restoration.
Fluoride treatment.
SDF treatment.
If radiolucency is detected in furcation of a primary molar on x-ray, what might your treatment be?
Extraction & space maintenance
If a periapical radiolucency is detected of a primary tooth on x-ray, what might your treatment be?
Extraction (& space maintenance if it’s a molar)
If a 2nd primary molar is lost before the permanent 1st molar erupts, what can you do to prevent crowding?
Distal shoe space maintainer that guides 1st permanent molar into eruption without moving mesially.
If primary molar(s) is/are lost and 1st permanent molar has erupted, what can you do to prevent crowding?
Fixed band & loop space maintainer.
Fixed bilateral space maint if primary molars are lost bilaterally.
What age to 1st permanent molars erupt?
about 6 years old
What age do permanent premolars erupt?
between 10-12 years old
If the permanent canines are showing to be halfway over lateral incisor(s) it is probably ectopic eruption. What treatment can you do?
Extract primary canine(s).
Refer to an orthodontist for consult asap.
If 1st permanent molar is erupting into primary molar and causing pressure resorption, what can you do?
Extract affected primary molar.
Place distal shoe space maintainer.
