Accuracy of diagnosis, Apnoea (OSA), Aldosteronism
Bruits (renal artery stenosis), Bad kidneys (renal parenchymal disease)
Catecholamines (excess), Coarctation of the aorta, Cushing’s syndrome
Drugs, Diet
EPO (excess), Endocrine disorders
HTN
Treatment
1st line - ACEi/ARB, Calcium channel blocker, Thiazide diuretic, Betablockers
2nd line - K sparing diuretics, alpha blockers, centrally acting antiadrengeric drugs, direct acting vasodilators
Statins
HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors
Decrease cholesterol synthesis and LDL
Ezetimibe
Decreases absorption of cholesterol across intestinal wall and decreases LDL
Added to statins or instead of statins if they aren’t tolerated
Hypercholesterolaemia
Treatment
6 month trial of lifestyle change (unless symptomatic)
Statins
+/or ezetimibe
or fenobibrate
Fenobibrate
3rd line treatment for hypercholesterolaemia
1st line for isolated hypertriglyceridaemia
Not well tolerated
