No, as you won’t know what the forklifts capacity is
What action should you take? If you find that the data plate is missing from the forklift.
Remove the key tag out report to supervisor and make a note in the logbook

What does risk mean?
What could happen to you when exposed to a hazard?
What is the risk of refueling while the engine is running?
Fuel could ignite (catch on fire)
Describe which way a loaded forklift should travel up a ramp and where your load should be facing
The forklift should travel forward up a ramp with the load in front (forks and load facing uphill)
What might occur if you attempt to turn a forklift while on a ramp or sloping surface?
The forklift could tip over
How high should your load be raised when traveling
Axle height, or as low to the ground as possible
When should hazard controls be applied?
Before commencing your work or as soon as a hazard is identified during the work
Why is it unsafe to operate a forklift with the load raised?
The forklift could tip over forwards
What should be provided for the gap between a truck and the loading dock before shifting the load?
Dock, plates or bridge plates
A pallet contains an unbalanced load with one and heavier than the other which end should be against the heel of the fork arms
The heaviest end should be up against the heel of the fork arms
If a pallet appears to be unsafely stacked, what would you do before lifting it?
Restack the pallet, ensuring heaviest items are at the bottom and if required, secure the load with shrink wrap/strapping
What should you do if you have to work closer than the minimum distance required when working near powerlines?
Contact the local electrical authority to make sure you have permission, get power shut off ( if possible.) have powerlines insulated, use a spotter

Why is it dangerous to operate internal combustion engines in restricted/confined spaces?
The fumes are harmful and can kill you
Why must batteries be charged and well ventilated areas?
They release gases that is explosive when being charged . Ventilation helps prevent the explosive gases from exploding
What would be the best forklift to use in confined spaces?
Electric forklifts
Why should you constantly monitor the load movement when operating the forklift?
To ensure the load is stable to avoid losing the load or tip over the forklift
List three control measures that you can apply for pedestrians, site, personnel, and vehicles or mobile equipment

What must you have when working at night or in dark areas?
Adequate lighting
What precautions can you take when operating on wet and slippery surfaces?
Slow down, break slowly, turn slowly, avoid using ramps/slopes
Why should you not raise or lower load near or over people?
You could risk injury or death if the load falls on them
Is it permissible to carry a load with one fork arm? Why?
No!
It could cause the forklift to be unstable and loose load, tip forklift, damage forklift
Is it permissible to carry passengers on a forklift? Why?
Only if the forklift is designed to do so, if not, no, the passenger could fall off
How does a attachment affect the capacity of the forklift?
Attachments reduce the lifting capacity and some may even reduce the forklifts stability
What can happen if the load is not hard up against the heel of the fork arms
The load will be too far outside of the fulcrum triangle, reducing capacity and stability of the forklift
List three ways you could determine the weight of a load
1/ weigh each item and calculate the total weight, including the pallet itself
2/ check for markings / labels on the load, outlining the weight
3/ check the weigh bridge certificate
What should you do if a Forklift is tipping over and you are inside the Forklift?

Why should you remove the keys from a Forklift after use?
To prevent unauthorised use.

How can a HRW operator be penalised if they fail to operate the forklift safely?
HRWL suspended, cancelled or refused to be renewed.
What should you check on wheels and tyres?
Wheel nuts are tightened properly, tyres aren’t worn down and have even tread, no chucks of rubber missing and if tyres are pneumatic, make sure they are not deflated.
If you are driving with a large load and your view is obstructed, what should you do?
Drive in reverse, or have a spotter to help direct you when driving forwards.
