What happened soon after Harold was crowned ?
He feared opposition to him being king in York so he travelled there and married Edith the sister of both Edwin and Morcar to strengthen relations
What measures did Harold take to try and prevent an invasion from William?
Positioned his troops all along the south coast
- he didn’t know where he would land so was forced to spread his troops out
- not ideal but the best option given the circumstances
What happens in May of 1066 ( think Tostig)
So Tostig raided Sandwhich but failed due to Harold’s men forcing him to retreat
- he then sailed to Norfolk and Lincolnshire but Edwin and Morcar forced him to flee to Scotland
What is thought to of happens to Tostig whilst he was in Scotland ?
He first came into contact with Harold Hadrada and convinced him to invade England
What happens in September of 1066 ( think troops and the season)
- Harold sends most of his troops home as they where becoming restless
- they had been on the south coast for many months and many where bored +underfed
- Harold worried about loosing loyalty
- end of the sailing season so hoped William could not cross and it was harvest time so Harold’s men where needed back at their villages
