vehicle in park, adjust seat to reach all controls, adjust rear-view mirrors to see, lock all doors, and put on your seatbelt

Two braking systems; each must be able to stop the car alone; emergency brake should hold car on any hill
Low Beam Headlights Standards
Show objects 150 ft ahead; visible from 1000 feet
High Beam Headlights Standards
Show objects 450 ft ahead; visible from 1000 feet
Tailights Standards
Two red taillights visible from 1000 feet
Brake Lights Standards
Two red brakelights visible from 1000 feet
License Plate Light Standards
White light makes plate visible from 50 feet
Directional Signals Standards
Amber or white (front) or red (rear); visible from 500 ft
Horn Standards
Heard from distance of 200 ft
Mirrors Standards
At least one rear-view with view of 200 ft to the reat
Windshield Wiper Standards
Good working order to clear driver’s view
Windshields Standards
Safety glass; free of stickers
Side and Rear Windows Standards
Cannot reflect more than 25% of light (side) or 35% (rear)
Tires Standards
Minimal tread of 3/32 of an inch or greater/ no worn spots showing the ply
Impermissible Equipment
red/blue lights; extra lights; siren; loud, smoky muffler; television-type receiver; headphones worn by driver
