preparation and training cycle Flashcards
what is periodisation?
dividing training year into specific sections for s specific purpose
what is the macrocycle?
long term planning phase
e.g olympics
- 4 years / 1 year
what is mesocycle?
usually a 4 -12 week period of training with a particular focus such as developing a component of fitness
what is microcycle?
planning for a week, a few days or an individual session
what is tapering?
reducing the volume and/or intensity of training prior to competition
what is peaking?
planning and organising training so a performer is at their peak both physically and mentally for a major competition
what is continuous training
- works on developing aerobic endurance
- as a result, it improves the cardiovascular and respiratory systems take place
- this increases the ability to take up, transport and use oxygen more efficiently
fartlek training
- pace of the run is varied to stress both the aerobic energy system due to its continuous nature and the anaerobic energy system through the high-intensity bursts of energy
- varied in pace and different terrains
interval training
form of training in which periods of intervals of high intensity work are followed with recovery periods
- predominantly used by elite athletes
- training is very versatile
circuit training
athletes perform a series of exercises at a set of stations
- fitness based
weight training
- series of resistance exercises
-used to develop muscular strength - describe in terms of sets/reps etc
