Germinal Period (Zygotic)
about 2 weeks long
conception in the fallopian tube and then entering of uterus.
Blastula
A hallow ball of cells first formed in the fallopian tube before implantation,
Blastocyst
Inner part of the blastula where cells form into a child
Trophoblast
The outer part of the blastocyst becomes the trophoblast which become the support structure for the pregnancy (placenta)
Progesterone
Hormone that maintains the pregnancy.
Embryonic Period
last about 6 weeks
when the hallow ball starts to distinctively look like a human being with all the organs that the child will be born with.
A rapid time of development.
Morphogenesis
The beginning of different forms/functions for the cells.
Ectoderm
Outer later of cells that becomes skin, hair, nails, brain, spinal cord, and nervous system.
Mesoderm
Inner part of the outer layer of cells, becomes muscles, heart, circulatory system, bones, reproductive system, excretory system.
Endoderm
The inner layer of cells, becomes digestive system, respiratory system, and all the rest of your internal organs.
Organogenesis
The development of internal organs
Cephalocaudal
Development that goes from top to bottom.
Proximodistal
Development from inner to outer.
Fetal Period
Last 7 months
first month of fetal period, genes trigger hormones and change and determine the sex of the child.
Fifth, sixth, or seventh month of pregnancy baby can see outside the womb.

Fine hair that coats the baby’s body
