  • Estimate the gestational age (1) accurately and (2) as early as possible
  • Identify risk for fetal/birth parent complications
  • Provide pregnancy related education/Anticipatory Guidance
  • Assess overall health
  • Educate all involved with the care of the newborn
  • Identify barriers to care/SDOH
  • Inform patients of what is involved in prenatal care

A
  • Prenatal visits should occur every 4 weeks for the first 28 weeks.
  • Assess fundal height to determine fetal growth
  • Birth parent perception of fetal activity through kick counts
  • Risk assessment for significant events since previous visit
  • Recent travel, illness, exposure to infection, stressors, vaginal bleeding, cramping
  • Screening at every visits for
  • Intimate Partner Violence (at least every trimester), depression, substance use/abuse (EtOH, Tobacco, THC, illicit drugs, prescription drugs)
