Purpose of the IMDG Code’s classification system
To distinguish between goods which are considered to be dangerous for transport and those which are not
To identify the dangers which are presented by dangerous goods in transport
To ensure that the correct measures are taken to enable these goods to be transported safely without risk to persons or property (both within the port and on the ship)
What does PSN mean?
Proper Shipping Name
person appointed by a shoreside employer or by the master of a ship who is empowered to take all decisions relating to a specific task, having necessary current knowledge and experience for the purpose and, where required is suitably certificated or otherwise recognized by the regulatory authority

means the national, regional or local authority empowered to make legal requirements in respect of a port area and having powers to enforce the legal requirements
