what is Gravida
a women who is or has been pregnant (regardless of the outcome of the pregnancy)
what is nulligravida
a women who has never been pregnant and is not currently pregnant
what is primigravida
a women who is pregnant for the first time or has been pregnant once
what is multigravida
women who has been pregnant more than once
what is nullipara
a women who has never given birth or never had a pregnancy beyond 20 weeks
what is preimipara
women who has gi ven birth only 1 time (been delivered only once of a a fetus/fetusses born alive or dead with a gestation of 20 or more weeks)
what is Multipara
a women who has given birth 2 or more times (past 20 weeks)
what does G stand for
gravida: number of pregnancies
what does P stand for
Para: number of births (after 20 weeks)
what are presumptive signs of pregnancy
subjective signs
patient describes to provider
may not be due to pregnancy
ex. missed period/unusual bleeding, N/V, breast changes, increased urinary frequency
what are probably signs of pregnancy
enlargement of uterus
hegar’s sign
chadwicks sign
Goodells sign
piskacek sign
positive HCG test (urine or blood)
skin changes
what is hegars sign
softening of uterine isthmus
what is chadwicks sign
bluish/cyanotic appearing cervix and upper vagina due to increased vascularity
what is Piskacek sign
asymmetric bulge or soft prominence of uterus caused by placental development
what is goodell’s sign
softening of cervix due to increased vascularity
