A

Rapidly growing benign tumour of capillary blood vessels

Grows over 1-2 days

Common on fingers, upper chest, back, neck and face

Normally has a red appearance

A

What is pemphigoid gestationis?

A

Autoimmune reaction during pregnancy

Autoantibodies are created in response to placental tissue and cause damage to the space between the dermis and epidermis

Typically onsets in 2nd/3rd trimester

What are features of pemphigoid gestationis?

A

Initially red papular and blistering rashing around the umbilicus

Spreads across the body

Several fluid filled blisters form

What is the treatment of pemphigoid gestationis?

A

Normally self resolves after pregnancy without scarring

During pregnancy

  • topical emollients and steroids
  • oral steroids
  • immunosuppressants if steroids inadequate

What are the effects of pemphigoid gestationis on the foetus?

A

IUGR

Preterm birth

Blistering rash on foetus post delivery
