What is pre-clampsia?

-Pregnancy complication characterised by high blood pressure

What is the symptoms of pre-clampsia?
A
- Asymptomatic
- High bp
- Protein in urine
- Swelling in leg
- Urine retention

When does pre-clampsia usually occur and what can it damage?
A
- Usually after 20 weeks
- Damage to kidney and liver

What is eclampsia?
A
-Severe complication of preeclampsia. Can cause seizures due to high BP

What are the symptoms of eclampsia?
A
- Right abdominal pain
- Severe headache
- Vision & mental status changes

What can eclampsia cause?
A
- Stroke
- Coma
- Death for mother and foetus

What are the treatment options of eclampsia?
A
- Meds to lower BP & stop seizures
- GIVING BIRTH
