What happens to the fertilised egg?
It travels along the uterus and grows into an embryo, this attaches to the wall of the uterus and the placenta forms.
What is the placenta?
It is an organ responsible for providing oxygen and nutrients such as glucose for thé fétus to grow.
What substances does placenta remove?
Carbon dioxide and urea
What is the definition of diffusion?
The movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
What does the amniotic sac protect the fétus from?
Bumps/knocks
Some infections
Changes in temperature
How does the placenta protect the fétus?
Many pathogenic microbes are prevented from passing to the fetus
How do antibodies help the fetus?
Fight infection
Umbilical cord
Takes oxygen and food from mother’s blood and puts waste into the mother’s blood
