What are the two main functions of blood?
Transport oxygen and nutrients around the body

Plasma
Red blood cells
White blood cells
Platelets
What is the function of the red blood cell?
Carries oxygen from the lungs to every cell in the body
What is the function of the white blood cell?
Fights infection by pathogens and stops disease
What is plasma?
Carries blood cells and platelets around the body
What is a platelets?
Broken down parts of cells that form scabs.
What are two adaptations of red blood cells?
They have a bioconcave shape to increase surface area
They have no nucleus to increase the surface area for haemoglobin
What are the two types of white blood cells?
Phagocytes
Lymphocytes
What are phagocytes?
Phagocytes surround, engulf and destroy pathogens
