What must the PIC do before a flight is conducted
- Runway lengths
- IFR flight or flight not within the vicinity of the airport the PIC must
- Get weather reports and forecasts
- Fuel requirements
- Alternatives available
- Known traffic delays
When must you list an alternate airport when on an IFR flight plan?
- When the destination airport does not have an approved approach.
- When the weather at your destination does not meet the following requirements
- 1hr before or 1hr after arrival you do not have 2,000ft ceilings and 3sm visibility
For an alternate airport what is the minimums if there is a precision approach?
- 600ft ceilings
- 2 statue miles of visibility
For an alternate airport what is the minimums if there is a non-precision approach?
- 800ft ceiling
- 2 statute miles visibility
If there is no approach for the airport what are the required minimums for your time of arrival?
Ceilings and visibility must allow for
- Decent from MES
- Approach and landing under basic VFR
Why would an airport with approaches not be allowed to be used as an alternate?
- Airport is unmonitored
- No weather reporting service
How would you know an airport is not allowed to be used as an alternate?
the triangle with the A inside will have N/A next to it
What are the requirements if you have a WAAS GPS
Alternate airport must have weather minimums for non-precision approach
- 800ft AGL
- 2 statue miles visibility
