Airspace Flashcards
1
Q
What are the regulations on Gulf airspace
A
- Go for it
- Uncontrolled
- No IFR clearance or flight plan required
- Don’t have to talk to anyone to fly IFR in Class G
- Looks like a Brown area on Low enroute charts
- Class G normally goes no higher than 14,500 MSL
- If terrain is higher than 14,000ft MSL then gulf will go to 1,500ft above that
2
Q
What are the regulations on Echo airspace
A
- Controlled airspace
- Normally has a floor of 1200ft AGL
Dashed magenta circle around the airport indicates the Class E goes to the ground - Faded magenta circle around the airport means that Class E goes to 700ft AGL
- On sectional charts airspace on fuzzy side means echos floor is 1200ft AGL on the defined side Class Echo is 14,500ft MSL
- if Echo has a special floor it will be identified by tire treads and the floor is written
3
Q
What are the regulations on Delta airspace
A
- Controlled airspace
- No specific size, shown on chart
- Usual horizontal boundary is 4nm
- Usually goes up to 2,500ft AGL
- Must talk to tower before you enter
- Transponder not required
4
Q
What are the regulations on Charlie airspace
A
- Controlled airspace
- Operating control tower
- Radar approach control
- IFR or passenger operations volume
- Indicated on IFR low charts as filled in blue dashed circle
- inner circle is surface to 4,000ft AGL this extends out 5nm
-shelf area starts at 1,200ft AGL and goes up to 4,000ft AGLand extends out 5-10nm - Outer area is 10-20nm this is the area that VFR traffic is suppose to make contact with
- Service provided in outer area is only separation from all IFR and participating VFR aircraft
5
Q
Rules for Class C airspace
A
- Must maintain 2 way communications
- in surface and shelf areas
6
Q
Minimum equipment for Class C
A
- Radio
- Mode C transponder
7
Q
What is the maximum speed for Class C and D Airspace?
A
- 200KIAS if at or below 2,500ft AGL and within 4nm of airport
8
Q
Class Bravo Airspace
A
- Controlled airspace
- Big airport
- Comes in all different sizes and shapes
- Generally reaches up to 10,000ft MSL (exceptions when the airport elevation is higher)
9
Q
What do you need for IFR operations in Class B airspace?
A
- Instrument navigation system
- Two-way communication ability
- Transponder with Mode C
10
Q
Can you fly in Class B airspace without a transponder?
A
- Yes as long as you request access 1hr before entering airspace
- If you lose your transponder ATC may authorize you at anytime to fly in Bravo airspace
11
Q
How far out is the Mode C veil?
A
- 30nm
12
Q
What are the regulations on Alpha airspace
A
- Starts at 18,000ft MSL and above
- Goes up to 60,000ft MSL
13
Q
What are the regulations for flying in Class A airspace?
A
- IFR rated and current
- Plane must be IFR equipped
- Must be on a IFR clearance and at an altitude assigned by ATC
- Must have a transponder w/ Mode C
- Separation is provided to all aircraft
- VFR IS PROHIBITED
