Predictive Windshear Alerts Flashcards
PWS alerts are provided by the _____
Weather radar
Predictive windshear alerts are inhibited by these 3 things:
- Actual windshear
- Look ahead terrain alerts
- RA based alerts
T/F The WX RDR does not provide alerting for ALL types of windshear, the pilot must continue to rely on traditional windshear avoidance methods.
True
“Windshear ahead”
Windshear close and directly ahead.
Takeoff to 1200 RA
“Go-around, windshear ahead”
Windshear within 1.5 miles and directly ahead
During approach below 1200 RA
“Monitor Radar Display”
Windshear within 3 miles ahead of the aircraft
TAKEOFF and APPROACH below 1200 RA
Radar automatically begins SCANNING for windshear when:
- Thrust levers set for takeoff (whether engine off or IRS not aligned)
- In flight below 2300 RA (ALERTS NOT UNTIL BELOW 1200 RA)
Windshear alerts available approximately ____ seconds after the WX RDR begins scanning
12 seconds
*Have WX RDR on to save the 12 seconds
During takeoff and landing, new predictive windshear CAUTION alerts are inhibited between ____ knots and ____ RA
80 knots and 400 RA
During takeoff and landing new WARNING alerts are inhibited between _____ knots and _____ RA
100 knots and 50 RA
Actions in response to PWS caution (“Monitor Radar Display”) or warning (Windshear ahead, windshear ahead, go around”)
Prior to initiating takeoff roll - Delay takeoff
Takeoff roll to V1 - REJECT
After V1 - Apply max thrust and continue normal takeoff
During approach - (Caution) if stabilized approach can be maintained land, if not, go around normally (Warning) Go around with two TOGA pushes
