name the basic steps to predicting products
1) Decide what type of reaction is happening
2) Use charges to determine the products
3) Balance the equation (it’s not right if it’s not
balanced)

• So for every H you have you will need the same
number of OHs and vise versa
• Once you have the same number of H’s and OH’s
you will get the same number of waters
• The ions that are left over will be reacted together
to finish the equation off

• If there is a C in the original compound you will get
CO2
• If there is a S in the original compound you will get
SO2
• If there is a H in the original compound you will get
H20

• Heat will ENTER the system in an endothermic rxn
• The products will be at a higher energy state
• More energy is required to break bonds
• The separated atoms now have more energy than
the original compound
• Because the system has taken energy in from the
surroundings the surroundings will feel COLD

• Heat will EXIT the system in an exothermic rxn
• The products will be at a lower energy state than the
reactants
• less energy is required to break bonds
• products have less energy than reactants
• surroundings will feel HOT
