They have no intention to adopt the behavior in the next six months.
DESCRIBE CLIENTS WITH THIS MINDSET
Cons (reasons not to change) outweigh pros or the benefits of changing. They may know all the benefits of exercise, buy they just don’t have the time, or that something is more important right now.
May get defensive. “I don’t need to exercise. I have more important things to do right now. I can’t exercise regular. I’m to busy right now.”
May resist the change.
Feel coerced into making a change. They may express that they feel like changing isn’t their choice. Rather, they are being forced into it. “my spouse told me or my doctor said I had to.”
Likely demoralized. Perhaps they have tried to change in the past and have not been successful. That makes it really hard to change again.
30 to 85 percent of the population. That is a huge portion of the people who need our help, but yet many of us may not know the best way to work with them.
WHAT ARE SOMETHINGS PRECONTEMPLATORS MIGHT SAY?
“I would but…… “I would exercise regularly but I don’t know how to get started.”
Things are OK….”Things are okay right now. I don’t exercise regularly. Why start?”
Not now…..”Not now. I have a huge deadline at work.”
I can’t….”I can’t exercise now. It’s too hot. It’s to cold. It’s to rainy. It’s too snowy”
Does any of this sound familiar?
