WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF CONTEMPLATION?

A

Pros = Cons….The pros of changing behavior are equal to the cons of changing.
Ambivalent….It is not uncommon for people in contemplation to stay there for years if they don’t have the right intervention.
Ambivalent
Lack Commitment….People here often haven’t made a strong commitment to change. They may say they will give it a try at some point.
Lack Confidence….They are not exactly sure what to do, and they get off track really easily
10-50 percent of people are at risk for a behavior are in contemplation, another huge portion of people who need our help.

WHAT ARE SOME THINGS CONTEMPLATORS MIGHT SAY?

A

“Maybe I will”….”Maybe I’ll go for a walk today.”
“I will when”……“I’ll start jogging again in the spring when the weather is better.”
“I’d like to, but”……..”I’d like to exercise regularly, but the gym is so far away, and I don’t really have any classes I’m interested in.”

They are often waiting for that magic moment to get started.
