Q

What hard tissue excisional procedures might be indicated?

A

Removal of retained teeth/roots/pathology
- retained roots are commonly extracted if the bone is resorbed and the root has come to the surface, causing the patient discomfort.

Ridge defect correction

Mandibular tori

Maxillary tori

Maxillar tuberosity

Exostoses

Undercuts

Genial tubercle reduction

Mylohyoid ridge reduction

Q

Why might retained roots require removal later down the line?

A

Become mobilised

Infection/pathology

Bone resorption has caused them to come to the surface of the bone and causing pain

Q

Why might ridge defects have arose?

A

Anterior teeth lost a long time after the posterior teeth were lost
- posterior ridge resorbed a lot more than anterior.

Knife-edged ridge- sharp bone not removed during extraction.
- Can smooth this area off.

Q

Do mandibular tori need to be removed?

A

Wouldn’t remove them unless it is causing a problem with denture retention.

In a dentate person, you would leave them alone.

Q

For a flabby ridge, what could you do?
