A
Surgical procedures done on edentulous or partially dentate oral tissues before the construction of prosthetic replacements

Describe the aims of pre-prosthetic surgery
A
- to provide an ideal denture bearing area for the prosthesis -> improving its satisfactory stability and retention
- help in the insertion, retention, stability and function of a removable prosthesis

List the types of pre-prosthetic surgery
A
- exodontia (impacted tooth, retained roots, mal positioned/non functional teeth)
- applies to patients who wants to go for radiotherapy
- removal of pathologies (cysts)
- bone contouring (ridge correction procedures -> too much undercut/ridge too high)
- jaw/orthognathic procedures
- soft tissue procedures (frenectomy, excision of hyperplastic tissue, vestibuloplasty - sulcus deepening)
- implant procedures
