What are some conditions for which preoperative evaluation is strongly recommended prior to the day of the surgery?
- Lack of normal daily activity (elderly) within past 6 months
- Heart disease history
- Respiratory disease history
- Neuromuscular, hepatic, musculoskeletal, cancer, GI issues, endocrine issues, etc.
How many weeks before surgery should you have the patient stop medications?
2 weeks, exceptions are: MAO inhibitors, psychiatric medications, ulcerative colitis meds
Rate of MH?
1 in 25,000
What is an indication of pseudocholinesterase deficiency?
Extended duration of sucs paralysis
Risk factors of ischemic heart disease?
- Age >55
- Family history of premature CHD
- Current cigarette smoking
- HTN or bad EF
