Pre lab sauerland hands/elbows Flashcards
What is this:
increase in size of the nine structures or their coverings (i.e inflammation of synovial sheaths)
carpal tunnel syndrome
Which nerve is the most sensitive structure in the carpal tunnel?
median nerve
If you have compression of the median nerve what will this lead to?
paresthesia (tingling)
hypoesthesia (diminished sensation)
progressive loss of coordination and strength in hand
weakness and reduction in size of the thenar muscles
What artery and nerve do not pass through the carpal tunnel?
ulnar artery and nerve
(blank) = tendon
sheath of flexor pollicis
longus
Radial bursa
(blank)= common flexor sheath
ulnar bursa
(blank)= communication b/w radial and ulnar bursa
intermediate bursa
If you have an infection of the little finger synovial sheath, what might happen?
it might spread to the palm and then to the thumb but finger 2 3 4 are fine creating a horseshoe abscess
if you see a swollen had and swollen fingers 2 3 4 then what happend?
infection of midpalmer space
What is this:
Known by surgeons as ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction (or UCL),
is a surgical procedure in which a ligament in the medial elbow
is replaced with a tendon from elsewhere in the body
The procedure is common among collegiate and professional baseball players.
Tommy John Surgery
The (blank) can become stretched, frayed or torn through the stress of the throwing motion. The risk of injury to the throwing athlete’s (blank) of the elbow is thought to be extremely high as the amount of stress through this structure approaches its ultimate tensile strength during each and every hard throw.”
ulnar collateral ligament
ulnar collateral ligament
When you have a damaged UCL which part is the one that ruptures?
the anterior band
How do you fix a UCL?
you harvest tendon from palmaris longus tendon and make tunnels in the elbow and putligament through to make a pseudo UCL
why isnt it good for children to pitch?
their growth plates cant handle the heat.
Where do you inject someone in the butt?
upper lateral quadrant ( so you can avoid the superior gluteal nerve)
