Napoleon forced out the King of Portugal during the Peninsular War. The King fled to Brazil because it was a Portuguese colony and declared Brazil a kingdom on equal footing with Portugal. When Napoleon as defeated, the King returned to Portugal and left his son as regent. What does regent mean?
