Q

Handbrake & Gear Lever (1)

A

Ensure the ‘Handbrake’ is firmly applied by pulling upwards on the lever until it can go no more.

That the gear lever is in ‘Neutral’ (or ‘Park’ in an Automatic). You can tell if it is in Neutral by the large amount of lateral movement of the gear stick.

At this point I would familiarise myself with the gear positions.

Q

‘Seat & Steering Wheel’ adjustment (2)

A

The drivers seat longitudal position is adjusted so I can reach all the controls comfortably and depress the foot-pedals whilst retaining a slight bend at my knee.

My seat rake is adjusted alongside the steering wheel rake so I am able to place my hands at the ‘10 to 2’ position on the steering wheel and use the full circumference of it, whilst retaining a slight bend at the elbows.

My seat height is adjusted to ensure I have a good clear view to the front and the sides of the vehicle, and guards against fatigue.

I ensure the seat is located properly to prevent movement in braking and accelerating situations.

The head restraint is aligned so that the top is aligned with my eye line.

The lumbar adjustment is adjusted to support my lower back.
