Daily Q's W1D2 Revision Flashcards
Name in sequence the phases of the system?
Position, Speed, Gear, Acceleration
What does the mnemonic ‘TUG’ stand for?
Take - Use - Give [Information]
Where are the essential mirror checks placed within the system?
Prior to position, speed and acceleration.
What is a hazard?
Anything that is an actual or potential danger.
What are the three main types of hazards?
Physical features, weather conditions, position or movement of other road users.
Does every phase of the system have to be implemented?
No, however is phase must be considered.
An advantage of applying the system of car control in complex situations will give the driver?
More time to react to the hazard.
What is the 3rd item in the sequence of the pre-driving check?
Check Mirrors.
How should exterior door mirrors be aligned and are all blind spots eliminated by this?
NOT ALL BLIND SPOTS ARE ELIMINATED.In the vertical plane - 1/3rd Vehicle, 2/3rds roadIn the horizontal plane - 50% road, 50% vehicle.
What is the legal and SWAST requirement for tyre tread depth?
1.6mm Law, 3mm SWAST covering 3/4 of the tyre width, around the entire circumference of the tyre.
What is the shutdown procedure?
Apply handbrake, gear into neutral (or park), turn off everything on the dash left to right, then right to left, switch off engine, slowly remove foot off clutch, slowly remove foot off brake.
What is tapered braking and how is it achieved?
Take up the slack, then apply firm pressure to the brake pedal, slowly removing pressure as the speed reduces, ensuring a smooth stop.
Describe the different actions for a long and short stop procedure?
Short Stop - Select first gear, handbrake up (keep hand on handbrake).Long stop - Handbrake up, select neutral, hands back on steering wheel.
Explain push pull steering, and where should drivers place their hands?
10 to 2 Position, when maneuvering the driver should pull down on the steering wheel in the desired direction of travel to 6 o’clock and if more steering is needed then push up with the other hand.
What is acceleration sense?
Ability to vary vehicle speed by accurate use of the accelerator to reduce using the footbrake.
