Conquest of the Aztecs

A

Catholic soldiers with the blessing of the crown was to gather land. Cortez comes in from 1519-21 into the Aztecs and conquers them, disease rampaging a lot of their community. Wasn’t their goal. They were motivated by Gold, god, and glory, wanting to spread their religion.

The Inca’s were split into four different ruling families, however, like a lot of dynasties, had trouble with next in line for the throne. These disputes weakened the incan empire, making way for Pizarro’s conquest. Pizarro saw this land as a place for growth and wealth, as well as the spread of catholocism

Rebellion happens, such as Pope’s rebelliong (Pueblo revolt) 1680, there weren’t many Spanish, mostly native and they were tired of the way they were treated, They killed spanish priests and got rid of their churches, and for a decade, the spanish pulled back. Black legend- the idea that the only goal of the spanish was to come and destroy them.
