trading and of having numerous trade posts during the 15th century)

Portugal was slowly being
outdone by its rival, Spain
Just like Portugal, Spain wanted to rule beyond European borders
under the banner of Catholicism

Treaty of Tordesillas (1494)
The treaty was created in order to divide the “New World” (North/South America) between Spanish (West) and Portuguese (East) territory
