Q

how did we figure out that ETCHbox genes emerged from gene duplication?

A

some of the genes are very close to Crx homeobox genes, and this is a pattern seen across placental mammals

Q

useful techniques in determining gene function from RNAseq data

A

which genes are switched on by a specific gene? where is there overlap in targets?

GO analysis- looking at what the gene does and if you find any enrichments of particular functions

profile analysis- looks at if there are any patterns of gene expression which are enriched

Q

DDC model

A

duplication degeneration complementation- gene duplication can sometimes lead to gain of function and retention of a gene, rather than the degradation we usually see
