What is an advertisement?
any message communicating information about a member’s practice/professional services with the intent to influence choice, opinion, or behaviour in any public medium
What is a public medium?
any form of communication that is equally available to anyone who chooses to use it and that is directed to the public
What are requirements of an advertisement?
- information should be accurate, true, verifiable, professional, not misleading
- directed at a specific audience and comprehensible
- services advertised must be within the scope of practice
- does not promote a demand for unnecessary services
- does not contain testimonials or endorsements
does not contain guarantees or comparative or superlative statements - advertised fees/prices are truthful and accurate
- does not solicit patients/client in person, by telephone, email, or other forms of communication not deemed a public medium
- advertising is consistent with the college’s practice standard on conflict of interest
