Practical Flashcards
Aim
To conduct a correlation to the relationship between testosterone (shown by finger ratio) and aggression (shown via aggression questionnaire)
Method
The participants completed a questionnaire asking 30 questions about their aggressiveness and measured on a 5 point scale giving them a total for aggression. The second variable involved measuring the length of their ring finger and index finger and measuring the ratio between the two (it was done in this order to avoid them figuring out that their testosterone was being measured and effecting the results on their questionnaire).
These two variables were then plotted onto a scatter graph to measure correlation and a Spearman’s Rho calculation was conducted. All results were kept confidential and participants were both debriefed and given the right to withdraw at any point.
Sample
Opportunity sampling gathering 20 people from college.
Result
There was a positive/negative/no correlation. This relationship was tested using Spearman’. This found the results to be Significant/Not Significant at P<0.05 which an observed value of ________ and a critical value of _________.
+objective
Objective biological measures in finger length/testosterone
+reliable
Reliable measures/same questions and measurement for everyone
-generalisable
Opportunity sampling so not generalizable
-demand characteristics
Social desirability in questionnaire on aggression
+ethics
Ethical as we’re not influencing anything/naturally occuring
Hypothesis
Correlation.
There will be a relationship between 2D:4D ratio and aggression on a questionnaire out of 150
