Testes
Produce sperm and testosterone
Epididymis
Collects sperm from testes and stores them for maturation
Spermatic cord
Supportive structure that contains the vas deferens, the testicular artery, veins and lymphatics, and autonomic nerves
Ductus (vas) deferens
Receives sperm from epididymis and joins seminal vesicle duct to form ejaculatory duct.
Seminal vesicle
Secrete an alkaline fluid that contains fructose, neutralizes the acidity of the male urethra and the female reproductive tract
Prostate gland
Secretes a milky, slightly acidic solution which neutralizes acids of the vagina.
Bulbourethral (Cowper’s) Glands
Secretes a protective alkaline mucus that decreases sperm damage in the urethra
Penis
Contains the urethra and is a passageway for the ejaculation of semen and the excretion of urine
Seminiferous tubules (slide)
Produce spermatozoa by sperm cells called spermatogonia
Interstitial cells (slide)
Produce testosterone in the presence of leutenizing hormone
Ovaries
Where egg is produced
Uterus
Site of implantation of a fertilized ovum, development of the fetus during pregnancy and labor.
Broad Ligament
Major support for the uterus (side-to-side and rotation support)
Round Ligament
Maintenance of uterus position during pregnancy
Ovarian Ligament
Attaches the ovaries to the side wall of the uterus
