Q

Procedure

A

Ppts observed on public transport.

Research made a category and tallied helpful and unhelpful behaviours when spotted such as
Giving up seat (H) smoking (UH)

Researcher also collected qualitive data via recording interactions

Q

Statement of significance

A

Calculated value 3.22 is greater than critical value 2.71 so we reject the null hypothesis, there is a different in helpful behaviour in old and young

Q

Strenght of learning practical

A

High ecological validity
As it is naturalistic observation as ppts didn’t know that they were being observed
Therefore the behaviour of younger and older is natural and no demand characteristics

Q

Weakness of learning practical

A

One observer so data may be biased as they may interpret behaviour differently to other ppl
And younger researcher may be more based for younger ppl to justify certain behaviours

Plus you can’t track everybody’s behaviour so you may miss some helpful or unhelpful behaviours because ur alone

Q

Two improvements

A

Get more then one observer assessment level of the agreement in the two sets of results and prevent subjective bias to what is helpful and not helpful behaviour so finding on behaviour is more reliable

We can’t see all un/helpful behaviour
Access cctv footage of a bus ride
We can see all behaviour and double check helpful/un behaviour on video
