Practical 11 - Investigation of the force on a current in a magnetic field Flashcards
Which equation are we using for this practical?
F = BIlsintheta
Method
Magnet places on balance and tare pressed
Current increased and reading of ammeter and balance taken for minimum 5 pairs of values
F = mg. The extra force from the wire pushes down on the balance.
What causes the weight to increase on the balance?
The extra force is form the wire pushing down on the balance
What do we plot on the axes and what gradient does this give us?
y-axis = F
x-axis = I
Gradient = Bl
Describe the line given on the graph
Straight line
What is l in the equation and how is it measured?
Length of magnets
With a ruler
What are we trying to figure out in this practical?
B (magnetic field strength)
What do we need to take into consideration with l?
To multiply where necessary if it’s coiled
