Calculus
It is a hard stone like material that attaches to the tooth surface and is commonly called tartar
Supragingival calculus
Found in clinical crowns of the teeth above margin of a gingiva it is readily visible as a yellowish white deposit that may darken overtime
Subgingival calculus
It forms at the root surfaces below the gingival margin and can extend into periodontal pockets
it can be dark green or black the color is caused by staining from bleeding
