Powerplant Flashcards
What type of engine is used on the CL-65?
General Electric CF34-3B1
Which part of the engine is associated with the N2 section?
high-pressure turbine to drive the compressor.
How many stages are in high pressure turbine?
2 stages
How many compressor stages are used in the engine?
14 stages
Which engine gauges display fan speed?
N1
What is the purpose of variable geometry vanes in both the engine and APU compressor sections?
To prevent compressor stall and surge.
Efficiency
Name some of the components that are located on the accessory gear box of the engine?
- Fuel pump
- Lubrication pump
- Integrated Drive Generator
- Air Turbine Starter
- Hydraulic pump
- Scavenge pump
How many stages are in low pressure turbine?
4 stages
If the engine driven fuel pump fails will the engine continue to operate?
No.
How is the engine oil cooled?
Fuel/oil heat exchanger
What control the engine at low power setting?
<79% N1.
The thrust levers directly control engine output. The FCU hydro-mechanically controls the N2 speed of
the engine.
What control the engine at high power setting?
> 79% N1.
The N1 control amplifier controls engine rpm. (fuel computer to trim engine)
What is the caution related to turning the engine speed switches off at high power settings?
A rapid increase in engine RPM will occur and ITT maximum limits could be exceeded.
How many ignition systems are on each engine?
2 ignitors per engine
Which ignition system must be used when doing an external DC start? Why?
Ignition system B is powered from a static inverter by the DC battery bus.
