This is also known as formal, authoritative, and legitimate power.
Positional Power
This is where an individual has power because they hold information and control data gathering and distribution of information; keeps information to keep power.
Informational Power.
Respected or admired because of past experiences. The project or stakeholders have worked wit the PM before.
Referent Power
Because of certain situations in the organization, such as a change in leadership or change in the project team.
Mergers/acquisitions.
Situational Power
Power that comes in the form of warm personality that others like. Has friendly demeanor.
Personal / Charismatic Power
This is a power that can reward the project team, so the project team acts accordingly.
Reward Power
This power is attained by gaining favor through flattery. False power as this wears down.
Ingratiating Power
This is power obtained by restricting choices to get the project team to perform and do the project work.
Pressure-based Power
This is power that can make the team and stakeholders feel guilty in order to gain compliance.
Guilt-based Power
This power uses persuasion towards a specific outcome or decision.
Persuasive Power
When a PM refuses to act, get involved, or make decisions.
