  • initially, Scrooge is used by Dickens to represent the selfish attitude of the upper class within Victorian society.
  • towards the end this changes- the way he changes could suggest that the upper class need to be shown the same way scrooge was about the consequences in order for a change to occur in the whole of society

Dickens describes London as miserable and full of darkness which could reflect the attitudes of the inhabitants of London as well as the gloomy atmosphere.
- despite this, the poor are still described as cheerful, this establishes the idea that regardlessof the amount of money they have, they are still happy which challenges predjudices against the poor

  • The children may be representative of the ‘ignorance’ that many of the upper class had towards the plight of the poor.
