What are the characteristics of LEDCs?
expensive and little food - causes malnutrition
1.2 billion people don;t have access to safe water - hours spent carrying water
855 million children can’t read or write and many don’t receive any education
drugs are expensive and hospitals are often large distances away - low life expectancy
What are the causes of poverty?
countries may be in debt to other countries
HIV/aids causes the loss of earners
unfair trade - rich countries don’t pay farmers in LEDCs fairly
wars prevent the country from advancing and weaken the country
What do Christian Aid do to combat poverty?
Christian Aid works with the poorest people, Christian or not
tackles the causes and consequences of poverty
they challenge systems that favour the rich over the poor and marginalised
What are the Christian responses to poverty?
support charities with money that help the poor
campaign for the Government to stop exploiting poor countries
prayer for those in difficult situations
What does the bible says about poverty
Luke - “the poor are blessed and the kingdom of God is theirs”
