Cloning Flashcards
What is therapeutic cloning?
1) use of cloning techniques to produce a stem cell for research
2) may bring cures to diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Moto neurone disease
3) although, it involves the destruction of an embryo
What is reproductive cloning?
Use of cloning to produce a child
Enables doctors to eradicate hereditary diseases by cloning healthy human beings
Babies should be created out of love, cloning is unnatural
Could lead to designer babies, which lowers the value of children
What are the positives from cloning?
Cloning an endangered species can prevent them from going extinct
Can be used to create ‘super animals’, e.g. cows that produce milk without lactose
Cloning naturally occurs in nature in frogs - if God is in control than surely it is OK
What are the negatives from cloning?
it is wrong to ‘play God’ and create life
it requires lots of attempts
embryos may be discarded
cloning may lead to weaker species being ignored and dying out
