SWASTIKASANA

A

(auspicious pose)

जानूर्वोरन्तरे सम्यक्कृत्वा पादतले उभे । ऋजुकाय: समासीनः स्वस्तिकं तत्प्रचक्षते ॥19॥

Placing both soles (of the feet) on the inner side of the thighs, sitting equipoised with a straight body. This is called swastika (asana).

GOMUKHASANA

A

(cow’s face pose)

सव्ये दक्षिणगुल्कं तु पृष्ठपार्श्वे नियोजयेत् ।

दक्षिणेऽपि तथा सव्यं गोमुखं गोमुखाकृतिः ॥ 20 ॥

Place the right ankle next to the left buttock and the left (ankle) nex to the night (buttock). This is gomukhasana and it resembles the face of the cow.

VEERASANA

(hero’s pose) एकं पादं तथैकस्मिन्विन्यसेदुरुणि स्थिरतम् । इतरस्मिंस्तथा चोरुं वीरासनमितीरितम् ॥ 21 ॥

Placing one foot by the (opposite) thigh and the other (foot)
the (same) thigh is known as veerasana.

DHANURASANA

A

(bow pose) पादांगुष्ठौ तु पाणिम्यां गृहीत्वा श्रवणावधि ।

धनुराकर्षणं कुर्याद्धनुरासनमुच्यते ॥ 25 ॥

Holding the toes with the hands, pull them up to the ears s drawing a bow. This is called dhanurasana.

Just as there are different stages of drawing a bow, there is progression for the various techniques of dhanurasana.
