Posture Flashcards
Lordosis only how is pelvis tilted?
Anteriorly tilted
What are the characteristics of Lordosis /Kyphosis
Pelvis is Anteriorly tilted
Compensatory thoracic kyphosis
Neck compensates and is in a forward poked position with extension in the upper cervical area
Lordosis kyphosis how is pelvis tilted?
Pelvis is Anteriorly tilted with compensatory thoracic kyphosis.
Neck compensates and is in a forward poked position with extension in the upper cervical area.
Lordosis only- what muscles are tight or weak?
Tight in hip flexors- Itb iliopsoas.
Tight in back extensors
Possible tightness in quads and hip adductors Itb, poss tight hamstrings
Weakness in transverse and external obliques
Weakness in hamstrings
What are the characteristics of a Flat back
There is no lumbar curve
Upper thoracic spine is usually kyphotic.
This posture type usually has poor shock absorption in the lumbar spine
What muscles are tight or weak in a flat back posture?
Back extensors are tight
Hamstrings are often tight
Gluteals weak
Abdominals can be tight and weak
Characteristics of a sway back
Characterised by a posterior tilt in the pelvis and the weight is swayed forward .
To counterbalance this the upper body is swayed back.
Neck is usually poked forward with increased lordosis
Commonly causes pain in the thoracic spine
What muscles are tight and weak in sway back
Tightness in abdominals, gluteals, hip flexors neck flexors Weakness in hamstrings Pectorals Neck extensors
Characteristics of military posture
Shoulders are elevated and back
The lumbar spine is in a lordosis and is very tight
What muscles are tight or weak in military posture
All muscles appear tight and tense
Tight hamstrings
Tight calves
Tight hip flexors
What muscles are tight or weak in lordosis/kyphosis posture?
Tight= hip flexors - iliopsoas ITB
Tight back extensors
Tight Pectoralis minor, upper cervical extensors, upper trapezius or scalene, poss hamstrings
Weak in transverse and external obliques
Weakness in hamstrings, scapular stabilizers , lower traps
Scoliosis posture
S bend
Characterized by muscle imbalances in back and abdominal musculature.
One shoulder usually higher and the contra lateral hip is also higher than other side.
Sometimes accompanied by lordosis/kyphosis posture.
