Postural deviations Flashcards
Scoliosis
The abnormal curve of the spine, either left or right. Can be hereditary.
Kyphosis
Outwards curvature of the spine, causing huching of the back. Often due to bad posture.
Ossification
The process where bone is formed from cartilage. Cartilage cells die off and are calcified to produce bone. Osteoblasts then bring calcium to bones which then creates bone matter. Osteoblasts increase the more exercise you do.
How does exercise increase the strength of bones?
When muscles push and tug against bones during physical activity.
Osteoporosis
Where bones become brittle and fragile due to the loss of the tissue.
Type of exercise to prevent osteoporosis from getting worse?
Weight bearing.
Why will weight-bearing exercise prevent osteoporosis from getting worse?
Gets the skeleton/bones to support more weight meaning the bones become stronger. This is due to osteoblasts bringing calcium to the bones.
